This position is temporary, but expected to work full-time for approximately 5 months.

Our UW Tacoma Auxiliary Services unit within Finance has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Café Lead position.

This individual will ensure the implementation and daily service functions of the Market Street Café. The Café Lead will provide day to day operational leadership to the staff who will be making espresso beverages, stocking shelves, preparing food, serving hot and cold prepared items, taking payment and operating cash registers. This position will report directly to the Auxiliary Services Manager.

Duties:

* Ensure that the unit is prepared and staffed for opening and closing.

* Set the register and receive various payments from customers; account for receipts at the end of the work shift or daily operation.

* Maintain an inventory system to track inventories and to make sure inventories are maintained in the most cost-effective manner, minimizing over-ordering and tracking waste.

* Stock the display case and shelves and ensure that all food items are attractively displayed, that they meet basic quality standards, and that they are properly rotated, identified and priced. Keep display cases full throughout the day.

* Prepare and serve coffee, espresso and other cold beverages for customers. Assemble and provide beverages and other light refreshment for on-campus events.

* Instruct and monitor staff on preparation of food and beverages to insure that department and vendor standards for quality, portioning and consistency are followed, making corrections as needed.

* Monitor prepared foods for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including taking and recording food temperatures before the food leaves the production area.

* Check and maintain par stock levels daily.

* Order and maintain all supplies, materials, and services to meet customer needs.

* Ensure that security and cash handling requirements are met each day. Daily deposit cash payments received and perform other closing duties.

* Maintain records of foods wasted, and any adjustments for supervisor/manager.

* Participate in cleaning and sanitizing display areas, work surfaces and equipment according to best practices and health standards.

* Comply with applicable health and safety rules and maintaining liaison with UW Environmental Health and Safety, who is the current Public Health authority.

* Respond to questions and complaints in a positive, constructive, and timely manner.

* Ensure compliance with all state and local laws and regulations, University, and department policies and procedures.

* Work towards increasing sales through consistency of service and products.

* Work consistently to maximize the use of labor on hand.

* Work consistently to maximize productivity and the financial goals of the location.

* Perform related duties as requested.

* Markets and promotes food items with appropriate displays and service.REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or GED certificate AND one year of experience in retail selling, cash register operation, general clerical work and/or financial record keeping.

* A minimum of one year of experience in the food/retail industry, which includes customer service, inventory control and cash handling.

* General computer knowledge of Microsoft Office.

* Possession of a Washington State Drivers license and a valid Food Handler's permit.

* Communicates clearly both verbally and written

* Experience using a variety of software applications for areas of responsibility that include ordering, correspondence, budget monitoring, and payroll verification.

* Demonstrated ability to engage staff and patrons in constructive problem solving and resolution.DESIRED:• Independent Judgment: demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects while providing high quality services in a cost effective manner.
