Virginia Tech, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), invites applications for a NATA certified Athletic Trainer. The Director, Sports Medicine position reports directly to the Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine. This is a full-time faculty position.

Primary trainer for men's and women's track and field and cross country and other sports as assigned; will supervise and coordinate graduate assistant athletic trainers and participate in research projects.

Planning and implementation of programs in the sports medicine unit of the department to recognize and support student-athlete trainers and graduate assistant athletic trainers. Development and implementation of student-athlete trainer in-services during the course of the school year. Evaluates injuries and physical ailments; recommends, implements, and oversees treatment including preparing student-athletes to successfully return to participation after injury by fitting braces, pads, and constructing special protective equipment as necessary. Oversees practices and competitions, including taping, dressing, wraps, and pre- and post- practice care and treatment; treatment and rehabilitation of injuries; travels with team(s) as necessary.

Requirements: Graduate of an accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at the master's level with some Division I athletic training/sports medicine experience. National Athletic Trainers Association certification. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations. Experience recognizing, evaluating, and caring for athletic injuries and illnesses. Working knowledge of a wide variety of treatment modalities and rehabilitation equipment. CPR/First Aid and AED Certification.

Preferences: Additional higher education in related area. Additional instructor certification in CPR/First Aid. Experience with intercollegiate drug testing, intercollegiate sports pharmacy, operation of Diagnostic Radiographic Systems (X-ray and Fluro). Experience using Injury Zone System or similar software. Experience creating and giving educational presentations. Medical research experience.
