How To Balance Covid-19 Anxiety With Work

How To Balance Covid-19 Anxiety With Work

As COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly across the country, our lives have changed dramatically. Everything from work and finances to family and social life has been affected. Unfortunately, if you’re still working during this time, you need to stay focused and get your tasks done.

While immersing yourself in work is a good source of distraction for many—others might find it difficult to concentrate on work during this time. The whole thing can feel overwhelming, and that’s okay.

That said, you’ll still need to find a way to manage your anxiety and power through your daily tasks. So consider these strategies to help you calm your anxiety and remain productive.

Limit Your Daily News Intake

Refreshing your newsfeed every few minutes or leaving the news on in the background isn’t productive at all. It doesn’t add to the information you have and isn’t helping you deal with the crisis either. It only adds to your anxiety and pulls attention away from your work.

Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a statement asking people to take care of their mental health and limit their news intake.

Stay Informed

While this may seem paradoxical to the previous strategy, staying informed is essential during this time. In this case, it’s best to stick to credible news sources such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and local and state information outlets.

These sources will offer high-quality information without unnecessary speculation and commentary. This will let you stay informed without dealing with the anxiety.

Self-Care Is Key

Taking care of your physical and mental health during this time is vital. Being isolated at home limits the opportunity for physical activity. Limited contact with your loved ones can bring down your mental health too.

Even if you’re working, it’s important to take time out for exercise and meditation. It’s a great way to uplift your mood and stay healthy.

Communicate With Your Boss

Working during this time is stressful, and it’s important to communicate your needs to your boss. If you’re feeling down, take a few days off from work to regroup and turn your brain off from work for a while.

Additionally, you can check if your boss can offer a more flexible schedule to make deadlines more manageable. It can help relieve some of the pressure and help you manage work with other responsibilities better.
