PRINCIPAL PURPOSE: This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day manufacturing operations at the Sleepy Eye, MN location. Achievement of the company safety, quality, production, and efficiency objectives is the dominant requirement of this job. This person must utilize effective planning, organizing, and supervising activities to manage the departments that are involved in the manufacture and shipment of Balchem Ingredient Solutions products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site. Responsible for Safety, Security, Health and regulatory programs on site including, but not limited to, emissions permitting and reporting, and support of ongoing safety improvements. Responsible for managing overall operating expenses, capital projects and expenditures, and budgets. Responsible for supervising/developing direct reports in areas of Production, Maintenance, and Warehouse operations. This includes developing individual goals and career development activities for employees. Coordinates activities with site QC Manager, ensures that all food products are manufactured in accordance with industry and regulatory standards for quality and food safety. Directs and approves production schedules to meet the demands of the business Oversees plant performance metrics and is responsible for continuous improvement activities at the site. Develops and tracks Key Performance Indicators and improvement plans against them. Directs the proper hiring and training of all employees. Prepares and submits the timely delivery of activity and monthly reports to keep Senior Management and others informed about the status of plant activities. Maintains a positive and healthy relationship with the community and regulatory agencies. Plant Host during customer, regulatory, and investor visits. Responsible for food safety and notifying Senior Management of any incident affecting food safety ESSENTIAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS: A Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent field is preferred. Suitable training or work experience necessary to satisfy the duties of the job is required. Job Summary: Candidate executes laboratory and pilot scale projects related to the application of Balchem products in the pharmaceutical market, becoming an in-house expert in how customers use Balchams products. The pharmaceutical and allied markets (oral solid dose forms, OTC, nutraceutical) demand data when purchasing ingredients and excipients. The candidate will work closely the commercial team to identify gaps in our application knowledge and work to fill them. The candidate will report to the R&D Manager for HNP. This position brings value by applying knowledge of pharmaceutical science as it relates to the use of Balchem products (choline, chelated minerals, encapsulated ingredients) in oral solid dose forms. This is both a customer facing and laboratory focused position, the candidate will be required to travel to customer locations to assist in customer visits and customer scale up trials. Execute application development projects to support customers in the pharmaceutical and allied markets (OTC, nutraceutical). The purpose of the work will be to demonstrate the utility of Balchem products and assist customers in formulation and scale up of new products. Develop technical application data to support commercial / regulatory strategy for the Business Platform. Communicate the functionality and technical benefits of Balchem ingredients in support of defined commercial strategy. Identify white space in the Balchem product line and actively participate in the generation of ideas for new products. Work with other R&D team members on new product development projects. Deliver a professional, high level of service and technical support to internal and external customers. General Description Tends machine that performs one or more packaging functions such as filling, marking, labeling, banding, tying, packing, or wrapping containers by performing the following duties. Duties and Responsibilities Fill bags or totes to proper weight according to plant and outside agency specifications. Ensure that the bags are properly sealed so that no powder is leaking out of seal. Stack finished product on pallets in a neat and orderly manner to facilitate good handling of the pallets in transport. Properly label product according to instructions including product code, lot number and any special markings. Sample product for lab and customer and inspect powder samples for any specks and foreign matter to ensure high quality of product and prevent contamination following Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain proper documentation of product packaged as well as rework and scrap produced to ensure accuracy of records. This includes records for metal detector checks, weight checks, equipment and utensil checks. Inspect equipment to ensure it is in top working order, reporting any problems to the maintenance department. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and HACCP Programs for safety of self and others as well as overall compliance. Practice good housekeeping. Staging ingredients, cleaning your area and assisting fellow employees in cleaning or setting up other areas and other duties, jobs and functions as assigned or required.
