POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires that you accept the responsibility for the delivery of food services to each resident in your assigned Resident Group. You will be accountable to monitor the activities and behavior for all residents in your Resident Group so that the care, services, and activities of each resident are appropriate and delivered to them in a continuous, predictable, and efficient manner. You must coordinate and communicate with all food services and other team members in maintaining a holistic perspective of care and service for each resident.

Provide the highest quality and consistency of service to all residents in all dining rooms and resident apartments, according to company standards as set forth in the attached food server's manual.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Personally get to know all residents in your Resident Group by communicating with team members and departments, reviewing appropriate resident records, and direct conversation with residents.
  2. Orient each new resident in your Resident Group to the dining room, food services program, to their new living environment, to you, to other team members, and to all other residents. Follow and actively participate in all resident orientation practices and procedures which have been and will continually be developed to ease the disorientation, confusion, and withdrawal for each new resident. Remain as closely involved as possible in all activities and therapies of your residents to ease their anxiety while they become accustomed to their new and unfamiliar living environment. Explain the amenities, routines, and expectations of the community and your department and discuss their unique needs and preferences with them as often as necessary to ease their transition.
  3. Perform all aspects of food service outlined in the Resident Handbook and Care Plan. Continually assess each resident's ability to perform basic daily living activities (ADL's) and social skills. Communicate observations and refer potential difficulties or opportunities for resident improvement to the appropriate team members (team leaders, supervisors, manager). When called upon, participate in care planning and other formal and informal meetings to identify and confirm recommended actions that develop and reinforce residents' full potential to live independently and age in place graciously. Work individually on a consistent basis each day with each resident in your Resident Group to expand the number of activities of daily living the resident performs for himself/herself. Encourage and motivate each resident in your Resident Group to do as much for themselves as possible but take time, if necessary to assist when required.
  4. Recommendations of and involvement in food services and other programs that will stimulate and maximize their unique interests and attributes for each resident in your Resident Group is your responsibility and should be based on first-hand knowledge of the residents' likes, dislikes, beliefs, and interests. Plan your daily work schedule in a way that will maximize time for personal individualized interaction with each resident in your Resident Group. Use the time when providing service to encourage participation in individual and group activities so as to develop improved future ADL skills.
  5. When appropriate, record and use all pertinent information from resident records regarding effective methods used in effecting communication with, the motivation of, and assistance to each resident in your Resident Group.
  6. Request additional guidance, training, and support as necessary to make your work with each resident reach their potential for a safe, healthy and meaningful lifestyle in the Community. Participate in all required training, orientation, meetings, and programs offered by the employer.
  7. Promptly discuss and resolve any potential care coordination problems with all involved team members and team leaders.
  8. Provide prompt, polite and professional service to residents in your assigned section.
  9. Assist residents and other team members with beverages, salads soup, dessert, and all other service needs.
  10. Clear tables as you work your section. Clean and wipe down tables and chairs after residents leave the dining room.
  11. Do daily side cleaning duties as scheduled and requested. Spot sweep floor in the dining room after each meal.
  12. Set up dining room tables with all utensils, chinaware, eating silverware and glassware. Refill sugars, salt, pepper, creamers, and butter dishes after each meal.
  13. Set up delivery and pick-up daily room trays for room service orders.
  14. Set up and replenish salad bar and all other beverage and service stations.
  15. Assist cook with minor preparation, portioning and plate set-up of menu items including garnish.
  16. Present a professional demeanor that communicates to current and prospective residents the corporate philosophy of service, goodwill and genuine interest in the resident's unique needs. Conduct yourself and your business at all times so as not to detract from or reflect adversely on the reputation of the property. Handle all resident concerns and complaints with finesse and in a caring, polite and professional manner.
  17. Communicate and channel to a supervisor, all resident, personnel and other matters and information which could concern or be in any way beneficial to the employer.
  18. While on duty, diligently and conscientiously devote your full and exclusive time and attention, your best skills, and efforts, to the discharge of your duties.
  19. Promote a thorough and continuous understanding among all employees of the importance of the Food Services Department to the quality of life for all residents and prospective residents.
  20. Perform such other tasks as may be required from time to time by the management of the property.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Push, pull, or lift at least 30 pounds. Frequent transporting of residents in a wheelchair.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A continuous and consistent demonstrated an interest in and knowledge about the elderly and their needs and the competency to meet those needs on a consistent basis. An interest in and willingness to learn and a demonstrated initiative in developing skills in caring for the elderly consistent with the philosophy and policies of the Community.
  • Must be able to routinely follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, or bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written; English language skills adequate to allow communication with residents and staff, and to understand written and verbal instructions. Compassion for the elderly and sick.
