WSU VISTA Fellow: Wichita's Littlest Heroes CoordinatorWichita's Littlest Heroes (WLH) is a nonprofit organization serving over 500 families across Kansas who have one or more children battling life-threatening medical conditions. WLH is seeking assistance from an AmeriCorps VISTA member to build up the backbone of the organization - the volunteer program. WLH is the only all-diagnosis inclusive nonprofit in Wichita that offers free fun events, resources and support, and focuses on the entire family. The mission of WLH is to ensure none of these families ever fight these pediatric battles alone. WLH is looking for a candidate who is willing to take charge and fulfill opportunities for community members to serve these Kansas families. WLH is a young organization but growing daily. As a current staff of 3 serving 500 families, WLH is looking for a VISTA Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to get individuals or groups excited about the work done by WLH, and get them signed up, ready to make an impact on those who need it most. Ideal candidates are self-starting, creative, empathetic, punctual, and organized. Creation and implementation of initiatives and procedures are a key to this position as WLH is looking to build volunteer platforms that will be a foundation for years to come. This position will create initiatives that allow Hero Parents or Teens (Heroes and Hero Siblings) to take ownership in volunteer opportunities for the Heroes, helping them build a healthy, hopeful future. WLH is state-wide family. Supporting these families brings a sense of great purpose while hanging out in a fun downtown environment with a team that has a heart for serving others. Every day at Hero Headquarters is a new adventure. While this organization is deeply rooting into policies and procedures, WLH is a "role-with-the-punches" kind of place and is always open to new ways of serving, fundraising, and building a vital presence to the Wichita and surrounding communities.Member Duties : Maintain communication with local volunteer groups.
