5 Soft Skills Employers Are Looking For In 2020

In the recently released LinkedIn Learning 2020 Workplace Learning Report, the professional networking platform analyzed data from more than 660 million professionals and 20 million jobs.

The assessment revealed a list of the top five soft skills and ten hard skills employers are hiring and training for in 2020.

In this blog, we’ll go over each of the soft skills outlined in this report in detail—as well as tips on how to develop these skills.

1: Creativity

Creativity is all about your ability to come up with original and innovative ideas. It requires an openness to innovation and mental flexibility, so individuals possessing this skill can come up with inventive solutions.

It takes time to build a creative approach and can be difficult—but not impossible to perfect. Try to expand your knowledge by reading and talking to experts. Ask for advice and feedback, and try to learn from unconventional sources, including other industries.

2: Persuasion

Persuasion is the ability to convince others to support your ideas, buy your solutions, and take action in accordance with your vision. If you’re looking to develop persuasion skills, you first need to develop listening skills. Active listening can help you understand and empathize with the other person’s point of view. Once you do that, it’ll be easier to convince others.

3: Collaboration

Collaboration has to do with your ability to work effectively as part of a team and unlock synergies towards a common goal. Effective collaboration requires strong communication and the ability to trust others around you. Becoming more self-aware and establishing clear communication should help you improve.

4: Adaptability

More important than ever, adaptability has to do with embracing change and uncertainty. You need to be more comfortable taking risks and encourage yourself and others to become more open-minded.

5: Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence has two parts to it: the first is your ability to perceive and understand your own emotions as well as those of others; the second has to do with being able to modulate your own natural emotions. To improve your emotional intelligence skills, you need to practice empathy and care consciously.
